G is a CC-group if \(G/C_ G(x^ G)\) is a Chernikov group, for each \(x\in G\), and such groups are a generalization of FC-groups. In an FC- group G/Z(G) is periodic but this is not the case for CC-groups and some of the difficulties caused by this are illustrated by some examples. When G is a CC-group with G/Z(G) periodic more positive results are obtained. For example, (A) G can be embedded in the direct product of a CC-group and a torsion-free abelian group, (B) the FC-centre of G is the join of the normal FC-subgroups of G, (C) G is an FC-group if and only if the finite residual of G is contained in Z(G). One other result of interest is that G/Z(G) is periodic if and only if G/FC(G) is periodic, where FC(G) is the FC-centre of G.
