The author reformulates the initial-boundary value problem \[ \partial u/\partial t-\Delta u+A(u)=f,\quad x>0,\quad t>0,\quad u(x,0)=0,\quad x>0,\quad u(0,t)=\gamma (t),\quad t>0 \] (A a quasilinear operator, e.g. \(A(u)=u^ 2\); \(\gamma (0)=0\), \(f=f(x,t))\) under certain hypotheses as fixed point problem (*) \(F=f-A(S(F))\), where S is the solution operator of \[ \partial w/\partial t-\Delta w=F,\quad x>0,\quad t>0,\quad w(x,0)=0,\quad x>0,\quad w(0,t)=\gamma (t),\quad t>0. \] S is the sum of a volume potential and a double-layer potential concentrated at \(\{\) (0,t): \(t>0\}\). He suggests to employ Banach's fixed point theorem in dealing with (*) and outlines the procedure for \(A(u)=u^ 2\).
