On a circumference of length one points \(P_ 1,P_ 2,..\). are independently taken using a uniform distribution. Let \(I_ k(n)\) be the k th largest segment generated by the first n points. Consider the event \(A_{n+1}\) that the next point hits this segment, that is \(A_{n+1}=P_{n+1}\in I_ k(n)\). The sequences \(k=k(n)\) are partially characterized for which the A's (a.s.) occur finitely as well as infinitely often.
