Imbeddings into topological groups preserving dimensions (Q921127)

This paper concerns topological groups as image domains for the imbedding of certain topological spaces and the relative dimension of each of these, using the many definitions of dimension. While the author gives a counterexample to a conjecture of Bel'nov, he also proves that for X a Tychonov space of dimension 0, the dimension of the free precompact group of X and the dimension of free Abelian precompact group of X are both zero. An interesting corollary is that every precompact group G is the quotient of a precompact group H of dimension zero and that the weights of G and H are equal.
