The author studies the cohomology of automorphic vector bundles on toroidal compactifications of Shimura varieties, and their relation to the theory of automorphic forms. The main result states that certain types of automorphic forms inject into this cohomology. This is slightly more general than the case of singular cohomology. For example it covers classical (SL(2,\({\mathbb{Z}})-)modular\) forms of weight one. The result is important because it implies for example that the traces of Hecke operators are algebraic.
