A Galerkin method with rational basis functions for Burgers equation (Q922665)

The authors study the approximation of the time-dependent Burgers equation (in one spatial dimension) which arises in the studies of turbulence and shock wave theory. They use a rational basis function as an alternative to upwinding techniques in the Galerkin finite element method. The difference schemes obtained were solved in time by implicit and explicit algorithms using higher order rational basis functions. A numerical example is also appended.
