The authors introduce the notion of a weakly regular and regular operation \(\lambda\) defined on subsets of a metric space \(Y\) (i.e., a map that assigns to each set \(B\subset Y\) another set \(\lambda(B)\)). Taking the closure of a set or its convex envelope (if \(Y\) is a normed space) are examples of such operations. Then the approximate family of sets with respect to \(\lambda\) is defined and its properties studied. The main result states that given an upper semicontinuous set-valued map \(F\) defined on a metric space \(X\) and taking values in the approximate family of a regular operation \(\lambda\) of \(Y\), for each \(\varepsilon>0\), \(F\) admits a lower semicontinuous \(\varepsilon\)-approximation (on the graph). Further, the notion of a Michael family is studied and some corollaries are established.
