Let \(\Omega\subset\mathbb C^n\) be an unbounded strongly pseudoconvex domain with \(\mathcal C^2\)-boundary. The authors study the following generalized Dirichlet problem. Given a continuous function \(h:\partial\Omega\to\mathbb R\), we are looking for an upper semicontinuous function \(u:\overline\Omega\to[-\infty,+\infty)\) with \(u\in\mathcal{PSH}(\Omega)\) and \(u=h\) on \(\partial\Omega\). The main results of the paper are the following theorems: {\parindent=4mm \begin{itemize}\item[{\(\bullet\)}] If \(h\geq0\), then the generalized Dirichlet problem has a solution \(u\in\mathcal C(\overline\Omega)\). \item[{\(\bullet\)}] If \(h\geq0\) and \(\Omega\) is strongly convex, then the generalized Dirichlet problem has the maximal solution, which is continuous on \(\partial\Omega\). Moreover, if \(h\) is bounded, then the maximal solution is continuous on \(\overline\Omega\). \item[{\(\bullet\)}] If \(h\geq0\) and \(\Omega\subset\{z\in\mathbb C^n: | P(z)| ^2>(1+| z| ^2)^{\deg P}\}\) for a polynomial \(P\in\mathbb C[z_1,\dots,z_n]\), then the generalized Dirichlet problem has the maximal solution, which is continuous on \(\partial\Omega\). \end{itemize}} The authors investigate also analogues of the above generalized Dirichlet problem for pluriharmonic and \(q\)-plurisubharmonic functions.
