Here the authors give an a priori proof of the known presentations of (that is, completeness of families of relations for) the principal subspaces of all the standard \(A_{1}^{(1)}\)-modules. These presentations had been used by \textit{S. Capparelli, J. Lepowsky} and \textit{A. Milas} [Commun. Contemp. Math. 5, No. 6, 947--966 (2003; Zbl 1039.05005)] for the purpose of obtaining the classical Rogers-Selberg recursions for the graded dimensions of the principal subspaces. This paper generalizes their first part [see Int. J. Math. 19, No. 1, 71--92 (2008; Zbl 1184.17012)]. They study the higher-level case by using an affine vertex operator algebra \(L(k\Lambda_ 0)\) and intertwining operators between \(L(k\Lambda_ 0)\)-modules and a reformulation of the main result in terms of principal ideals of vertex algebras is also given.
