      Let \(E\) be a set, \((G, +)\) a group and let \(f, g : E \rightarrow G\) be mappings. The author presents some theorems characterizing solutions of the following system of functional equations \[ f(x) = f(\varphi(x)) + g(x)\tag{1} \] and \[ \sum_{k=0}^{n-1} g(\varphi^{n-1-k}(x)) = 0\tag{2} \] for all \(x \in E\) and a given integer \(n\) greater than 1, where \(\varphi: E \rightarrow E\) satisfies the Babbage equation \(\varphi^n(x) = x\) for all \(x\in E\). Moreover, the author proves the stability of the system of functional equations {(1)} and {(2)} for a left translation invariant metric group \((G, +)\).
