The following theorem due to \textit{R. Narasimhan} [Nachr. Akad. Wiss. Göttingen, II. Math.-phys. Kl. 1960, 159--165 (1960; Zbl 0096.05901)] states that if \(X\) is an open Riemann surface and \(\{D_n\}_n\) is a sequence of mutually disjoint, locally finite Runge open sets in \(X\) such that \(\bigcup D_n\) is Runge in \(X\), then, for any sequence \(\{a_n\}\) of positive numbers, compact sets \(K_n\subset D_n\) and holomorphic functions \(f_n\in O(D_n)\), there is a holomorphic function \(f\in O(X)\) such that, for all \(n\), \(\| f- f_n\|_{K_n}< a_n\). In the paper under review the author shows that a similar statement fails for \(X= \mathbb{C}^3\).
