The rubber exhibits a complex behavior under monotonic and cyclic strains. Here the authors use an eight-chain model of rubber, which consists of eight standard models. The typical element of model consists of parallel connected springs, one of them being a dashpot, which represents the viscoelastic nature of rubber. The authors investigate the cyclic deformation behavior under different strain rates. For example, for a low strain rate, the dashpot deforms with low resistance to deformation, so the deformation of the springs is restricted. On the other hand, at a high strain rate, the dashpot resistance increases, and this promotes the deformation of springs. The authors have also developed a computational model which allows to obtain hysteretic and viscoelastic behavior under different conditions.
