The investigations presented here center around the Discrete Marcus-Yamabe Question, namely whether a \(C^1\)-map of the plane into itself with fixed point the origin and norm of the derivative everywhere between \(0\) and \(1\), has the origin as a global attractor. Various results are achieved on the nonwandering set, the \(\omega\)-limit set and local as well as global attractibility of \(0\) as a fixed point of a map (or an embedding) of the plane into itself. Important hypotheses concern the spectrum of the derivative and the existence of an invariant ray, the latter being an invariant curve emanating from the origin.
