A mixed spectral method for three-dimensional exterior problems using spherical harmonic and generalized Laguerre functions is developed. Some basic approximation results are established. The mixed spectral schemes are proposed for two model problems. Convergence is shown and numerical results demonstrate the efficiency of this new approach.
