The article studies the asymptotic behaviour of perturbations of viscous shock waves in systems of conservation laws with partially parabolic viscosity. It is shown that perturbations of Lax and overcompressive shock waves which are spectrally and hyperbolic stable and for which the connecting ODE profile satisfies a transversality condition, tend to a sum of the viscous shock waves and a collection of diffusion waves propagating along characteristics. Moreover, pointwise bounds for the convergence of the solution and the first derivative are given. In particular these results extend classical results of Liu for Lax type shocks with identity viscosity matrix to a setting which is applicable to models with non-classical shocks such as magnetohydrodynamics or phase transitions. The proof uses \textit{M. Raoofi}'s [J. Hyperbolic Differ. Equ. 2, No. 3, 595--644 (2005; Zbl 1085.35103)] \(L^p\)-estimates for perturbed viscous shock profiles combined with a bootstrap argument.
