Let \(G\) be a simple algebraic group of classical type over an algebraically closed field \(k\). Let \(P\) be a parabolic subgroup of \(G\) and let \(\mathfrak p\) be the Lie algebra of \(P\) with Levi decomposition \(\mathfrak p = \mathfrak m \oplus \mathfrak n\) where \(\mathfrak m\) is a Levi factor and \(\mathfrak n\) the corresponding nilradical. By \textit{R. W. Richardson}'s theorem [Bull. Lond. Math. Soc. 6, 21--24 (1974; Zbl 0287.20036)], there exists \(x\in \mathfrak n\) such that \([\mathfrak p,x]=\mathfrak n\). In other words, if \(P\) is the adjoint group of \(\mathfrak p\), then the orbit \(P\cdot x\) is dense in \(\mathfrak n\). It is usually called the Richardson orbit. Recently the first author gave constructions of Richardson elements in the case \(k = \mathbb C\) for many parabolic subgroups \(P\) of \(G\) [\textit{K. Baur}, J. Algebra 297, No. 1, 168--185 (2006; Zbl 1144.17004)]. Now the authors observe that these constructions remain valid for any algebraically closed field \(k\) of characteristic not equal to 2 and give constructions of Richardson elements for the remaining parabolic subgroups.
