The authors study existence, uniqueness (or multiplicity) and stability of nonnegative solutions to the semilinear elliptic equation \(-\Delta u=\lambda u -u^p\) in \(\Omega\subset\mathbb R^d\), \(d\geq 2\) with nonlinear boundary condition \(\partial u/\partial\nu= u^r\) on \(\partial\Omega\in C^{2,\gamma}\), \(0<\gamma<1.\) Here \(p,r>0,\) \(\lambda\in R\) is a bifurcation parameter and \(\nu\) is the outward unit normal vector field to \(\partial\Omega.\) It is given a precise behaviour of the solutions for large \(|\lambda|\) in the cases where they exist. The proofs are mainly based on bifurcation techniques, sub-supersolutions and variational methods.
