The Radau quadrature formula \[ \int_{-1}^1f(t)\sqrt{1-t^2}\,dt=\sum_{i=1}^nf(\xi_i)+R_n(f) \] is considered (for such a~quadrature there is a~fixed node \(\xi_1=-1\) or \(\xi_1=1\)). The error term can be expressed as a~contour integral over the ellipse surrounding the interval \([-1,1]\) on the complex plane with a~complex kernel. Then to give the error bound, the knowledge of the maximum of this kernel (or, at least, its bound) is needed. This maximum is determined in the paper as a~positive solution of Gautschi's conjecture.
