In a Riemannian manifold framework, an analogue of the Kantorovich's theorem was given in [\textit{O. P. Ferreira} and \textit{B. F. Svaiter}, J. Complexity 18, No.1, 304--329 (2002; Zbl 1003.65057)] for Newton's method for vector fields on Riemannian manifolds while the extensions of the Smale's \(\alpha\)-theory and \(\gamma\)-theory [\textit{S. Smale}, Newtons's method estimates from data at one point. The merging of disciplines: new directions in pure, applied, and computational mathematics, Proc. Symp. Honor G. S. Young, Laramie/Wyo. 1985, 185--196 (1986; Zbl 0613.65058)] to analytic vector fields and analytic methods on Riemannian manifold were done in [\textit{J. P. Dedien, P. Priouret, G. Malajovich}, IMA J. Numer. Anal. 23, No. 3, 395--419 (2003; Zbl 1047.65037)]. The aim of the reviewed article is to provide a unified frame which includes vector fields and mappings on Riemannian manifolds as special case, and a unified convergence criterion which includes Kantorovich's convergence theorem and Smale's \(\alpha\)-theory for Newton's method on Riemannian manifolds as special cases. For this purpose, Newton's method is extended, the Lipschitz' conditions with \(L\)-average in vector spaces is modified to suit sections on Riemannian manifolds. The suggested approach is based on the construction of a real-valued majorizing function using an adequate \(L\)-average Lipschitz condition for the covariant derivatives of sections on Riemannian manifolds.
