Let \(X\) be a compact Hausdorff space and \(I=[0,1]\). \textit{J.\,Marvot} [Proc.\ Am.\ Math.\ Soc, 134, No.\,4, 1065--1075 (2006; Zbl 1092.46035)] gave a complete description of multiplicative bijective maps on \(C(X,I)\) when \(X\) is first countable as \(f \rightarrow(f\circ\sigma)^k\), where \(\sigma\) is a homeomorphism of \(X\) and \(k:X\rightarrow(0,\infty)\) is continuous. In this paper, the authors give an example to show that such a description is no longer valid if one omits the first countability hypothesis. Let \(X\) be the Stone--Čech compactification of \((0,1)\) and consider the multiplicative bijection \(f \rightarrow\alpha_f\), where \(\alpha_f\) is the continuous extension of \(f^{\frac{1}{x}}\) on \((0,1)\).
