Let \(G\) be a locally compact group, let \(M_n\) be the space of \(n\times n\) complex matrices and let \(L^p(G,M_n)\), \(1\leq p\leq\infty\), be the \(L^p\)-space of matrix valued functions on \(G\), where \(M_n\) is equipped with one of the norms: the \(C^*\)-norm, the trace norm or the Hilbert-Schmidt norm. The principal aim of the monograph is the detailed study of matrix convolution operators \(T_\sigma\) on \(L^p(G,M_n)\), \(1\leq p\leq\infty\), \(T_\sigma f=f\ast \sigma\), where \(\sigma\) is an \(M_n\)-valued measure. The monograph consists of four chapters. After the introductory Chapter 1, in Chapter 2 the notation is introduced, basic definitions are gathered, and some results for the convolution operators in the scalar case are proved. Chapter 3, the most important one, is concerned with the study of spectral properties of matrix convolution operators. Among various spectral results, the \(L^2\)-spectrum of such an operator is completely determined. The object of study in Chapter 4 is the convolution semigroup of matrix-valued measures on \(G\), with an application to harmonic functions on Lie groups as well as to contractivity properties of such semigroups.
