Consider the Nevanlinna class of holomorphic functions in the unit disk \(\mathbb{D}\): \[ N= \Biggl\{f\in \text{Hol}(\mathbb{D}): \lim_{r\to 1} {1\over 2\pi} \int^{2\pi}_0\log^+|(f(re^{i\theta})|\,d\theta< \infty\Biggr\} \] and its subclass, the Smirnov class: \[ N^+= \Biggl\{f\in N: {1\over 2\pi} \int^{2\pi}_0 \log^+|f(re^{i\theta})|\,d\theta= {1\over 2\pi} \int^{2\pi}_0 \log^+|f^*(e^{i\theta})|\,d\theta< \infty\Biggr\}, \] where \(f^*(e^{i\theta})\) denotes the non-tangential limit of \(f\) at \(e^{i\theta}\). Let \[ N(f)= \lim_{r\to 1} {1\over 2\pi} \int^{2\pi}_0 \log(1+|f(re^{i\theta})|)\,d\theta \] and let \(f|\Lambda\) denote the restriction of \(f\) on a set \(\Lambda\subset\mathbb{D}\). \(\Lambda\) is called a sampling set for \(N\) if there exists \(c> 0\) such that for all \(f\in N\), \(N(f)\leq N(f|\Lambda)+ C\). It is called a determination set or a strongly sampling set for \(N\) if for \(f\in N\) and \(\sup_\Lambda|f|< \infty\) it follows that \( \sup_{\mathbb{D}}|f|<\infty\) or if for \(f\in N\) and \(h\in\text{Har}_+(\mathbb{D})\) such that \(\log^+|f(\lambda)|\leq h(\lambda)\) for all \(\lambda\in \Lambda\) it follow that \(\log^+ f\leq h\), where \(\text{Har}_+(\mathbb{D})\) denotes the class of nonnegative harmonic functions in \(\mathbb{D}\). For \(N^+\) there is a corresponding definition. The authors obtain the following results: 1) For \(N\) and \(N^+\), a set \(\Lambda(\subset\mathbb{D})\) is a sampling set if and only if it is an determination set and if and only if it is a strongly sampling set. 2) For \(N\), a sampling set is a Hayman-Lyons set [\textit{W. K. Hayman, T. J. Lyons}, J. Lond. Math. Soc., II. Ser. 42, No. 2, 292--308 (1990; Zbl 0675.30040)], and some characterizations of a determination set are found in terms of Blaschke sequences. 3) For three types of regular sequences \(\Lambda\subset\mathbb{D}\) some necessary and sufficient conditions for \(\Lambda\) to be a sampling function for \(N\) are found. 4) Some necessary and sufficient conditions for a set \(\Lambda\subset\mathbb{D}\) to be a determination set for some class of subharmonic functions in \(\mathbb{D}\) are found.
