The moduli space of commutative algebras of finite rank (Q936157)

In the article the affine scheme \(\mathfrak{B}_n\) parameterizing commutative \(k\)-algebras that have a fixed \(k\)-module basis, is studied. It is shown that the moduli scheme \(\mathfrak{B}_n\) is smooth if and only if \(n\leq 3\), and that it is reducible if \(n\geq 8\). The open subset of \(\mathfrak{B}_n\) consisting of étale algebras is of relative dimension \(n^2\), whereas the the relative dimension of \(\mathfrak{B}_n\) is \(\frac{2}{27}n^3 +{\mathcal O}(n^{8/3})\). Estimates for the dimension of the Hilbert scheme of \(n\)-points on affine \(d\)-space (\(2d\geq n\)) are also given.
