Just as there is a connection between three term recurrence relations and orthogonal polynomials, there is a connection between higher order recurrence relations and generalized orthogonal polynomials. It would go too far to list all the basic references here, there are several branches of the theory: connected with vector orthogonality, matrix orthogonality, Sobolev orthogonality, etc. Most of the work can be traced back as far as the two types of generalizations of the Hermite-Padé table and the algorithms arising from so called `regular paths' in them. The author gives in this paper some new applications of the method introduced in his previous papers [same journal 44, No. 4, 347--366 (2007; Zbl 1220.42018)] and 33, No. 1--4, 357--366 (2003; Zbl 1035.65157)] and starts with two families of polynomials \((N_k)\) and its perturbation \((M_k)\) defined by recurrence relations of order \(q_1\) resp. \(q_2\) and coefficients \(z-\alpha_k\), \(\beta_j^{[k]}\) resp. \(z-\gamma_k,\,\delta_j^{[k]}\). The numbers \(\alpha_k-\gamma_k\), \(\beta_j^{[k]}-\delta_j^{[k]}\) and \(q_1-q_2\) are called the perturbations. The paper first cites old results from the previous paper and then states new results on the asymptotic ratio \(M_k/N_k\), asymptotic formulae for \(M_k\) following from results for \(N_k\), zeros and differential equations for \(M_k\) following from facts on \(N_k\). The formulae are too cumbersome to repeat in a short review; moreover, some of the quantities used in the paper under review are not defined here, but the reader has to consult the previous paper.
