A method for the resolution of the Jacobi equation \(Y''+ RY = 0\) on the manifold Sp(2)/SU(2) (Q938321)

The paper under review includes a detailed investigation on the Jacobi vector fields along a geodesic \(\gamma(\cdot)\) in the normal, naturally reductive, Riemannian homogeneous space \(\text{Sp}(2)/\text{SU}(2)\). For this purpose the coefficients of the Taylor development of the Jacobi fields with respect to the parameter of \(\gamma(\cdot)\) are studied by using the results on curves of constant osculating rank obtained by \textit{K.~Tsukada} [Kodai Math. J. 19, No. 3, 395--437 (1996; Zbl 0871.53017)]. The information on the Jacobi fields obtained in this way is then applied to computing areas of geodesic spheres and volumes of geodesic balls in~\(\text{Sp}(2)/\text{SU}(2)\).
