The authors consider the problem \[ -\Delta u = |u|^{q-2}u+\lambda |u|^{2^*-2}u\, \text{in}\, \Omega,\, u \in H_0^1(\Omega), \] where \(\Omega\) is a bounded domain in \(\mathbb{R}^N (N \geq 3)\), \(2^*=2N/(N-2)\), \(1<q<2\), \(\lambda >0\). The authors obtain some lower bounds for the extremal value \(\lambda^*\) such that the problem admits two positive solutions if \(\lambda \in (0,\lambda^*)\) and no positive solutions if \(\lambda > \lambda^*\). In the proof they apply variational methods and some careful estimates concerning the behavior of a specific functional in some appropriated subsets of \(H_0^1(\Omega)\).
