The authors consider the problem of devising effective numerical techniques for environmental applications modelled by an advection-diffusion-reaction (ADR) equation. They show, via some basic test cases, that an a posteriori driven anisotropic mesh adaption procedure can be effective in tackling environmental applications modeled by ADR equations especially in the presence of strong adaptive fields.
