The authors analyze the linear stability of splitting methods by means of a \(2\times2\) matrix \(K(x)\) with polynomial entries and a stability polynomial \(p(x)\). They construct schemes with relatively large linear stability intervals that are highly accurate when applied to the harmonic oscillator. Some numerical examples are provided to illustrate the methods developed.
