One considers a reversible probabilistic cellular automata described by the transition matrix of a Markov chain. Some results are stated on its metastability one the one hand, and on the transition rate and zero temperature dynamics on the other hand. These results are expressed by a recurrence property combined with a new variational formulation, the derivation of which is the core of the paper.
