Let \(p\) be an odd integer. A \(p\)-colored knot \((K,\rho)\) is a knot together with a surjection \(\rho:\pi_1(S^3-K)\rightarrow D_{2\rho}\) from the knot group onto the dihedral group of order \(2p\). Two \(p\)-colored knots \((K_1,\rho_1)\) and \((K_2,\rho_2)\) are surgery equivalent if \(K_2\) can be obtained from \(K_1\) via a sequence of \(\pm 1\)-framed surgeries of \(S^3\) along unknots in the kernel of \(\rho_1\), and \(\rho_2\) is compatible with the result of \(\rho_1\) after the surgeries. \textit{D. Moskovich} [Algebr. Geom. Topol. 6, 673--697 (2006; Zbl 1098.57007)] has proved that for \(p=3, 5\) there are exactly \(p\) equivalence classes of \(p\)-colored knots, and that in general \(p\) is a lower bound for the number of equivalence classes of \(p\)-colored knots. In the paper under review, the authors use bordism theory to define an invariant of \(p\)-colored knots, and use it to show that for any odd integer \(p\), there are at most \(2p\) equivalence classes of \(p\)-colored knots. This invariant is also used to give a complete invariant of \(p\)-colored surgery equivalence for any odd integer \(p\).
