Continuously differentiable splines are constructed which are generalised from usual, polynomial splines, in that exactness of the spline approximation is provided for powers of a prescribed function. The latter replaces the usual monomials in a piecewise polynomial spline approximation. The support of the splines which form the basis of the approximation is compact with respect to a given set of nodes.
