Based on a classic heat equation, the author investigates to halt combustion waves with a fire break. Assuming that there is a specified ignition temperature and the fuel is not consumed by the reaction, he proves the existence and the uniqueness of a wave of permanent form and the stability of bounded perturbations. He also considers the behavior of the wave as it encounters a break in the fuel and obtains the size of the break required to halt the wave.
