The present book contains three detailed lectures presented at the Advanced School on Numerical Solutions of Partial Differential Equations (PDEs) in Barcelona in 2007. The first lecture is concerned with the use of wavelets in the numerical treatment of PDEs, the second describes high order shock capturing methods for conservation laws in detail and the third is a course on discontinuous Galerkin schemes for evolution equations. The book can be used as an introduction to each of the topics treated and gives a beautiful overview of recent numerical methods for conservation laws.
