The author considers log del Pezzo surfaces \(X\) (i.e., \(X\) is klt and \(-K_X\) is ample) of Picard number 1. He proves the result below which solves a problem of Kollar in the del Pezzo case. Theorem. Let \(X\) be a log del Pezzo surface of Picard number 1. Then \(X\) has at most 4 singularities. (This bound is sharp). In the proof, he uses an inequality about local \(\pi_1\) of \textit{S. Keel} and \textit{J. McKernan} [Rational curves on quasi-projective surfaces. Mem. Am. Math. Soc. 669, p. 140 (1999; Zbl 0955.14031)]. He also considers a curve \(C\) on the minimal resolution \(Y\) of \(X\) such that the intersection of \(C\) with the pullback of \(-K_X\) attains the smallest positive rational number (noting \(K_X\) is \(\mathbb Q\)-Cartier), and consider the case where \(|C + K_Y + \text{Exc}(Y/X)|\) is empty or otherwise. This approach was also used in reviewer's paper in [Osaka J. Math. 25, No.2, 461--497 (1988; Zbl 0736.14016)].
