    For a Jacobi weight \(w_{\alpha,\beta }(x)=(1-x)^{\alpha }(1+x)^{\beta}\) with \(\alpha ,\beta >-1,\) let \(p_{n}=p_{n}^{(\alpha,\beta)}\) be the corresponding orthonormal polynomials and let \(A (\alpha,\beta)\) denote the space of continuous functions \(f: (-1,1)\rightarrow \mathbb R \) such that \(\lim_{x\rightarrow \pm 1}f (x )w_{\alpha,\beta}(x)=0\). The Cesàro means of order \(\theta \geq 0\) are defined by \[ \sigma _{n}^{(\theta,\alpha,\beta)}(f,x)=\int_{-1}^{1}w_{\alpha,\beta}(t)f(t)K_{n}^{(\theta,\alpha,\beta)}(t,x) dt, \] where \[ K_{n}^{(\theta,\alpha,\beta)}(t,x)=\frac{1}{\binom{n+\theta }{n}}\sum_{k=0}^{n}\binom{n-k+\theta }{n-k}p_{k}(t) p_{k}(x) . \] The author gives sufficient conditions on the parameters \(\alpha\), \(\beta\), \(\gamma\), \(\delta\) and \(\theta\) in order to have the condition \[ \| w_{\gamma ,\delta }\sigma _{n}^{(\theta ,\alpha ,\beta)}(f)\| \leq c \| w_{\gamma ,\delta}f\| \text{ \;}(f\in A(\gamma,\delta )) , \] where \(\| \;\| \) is the \(\sup\)-norm in \([-1,1]\). It is shown as a corollary that the inequality holds for all \(\theta >0\),if \(0\leq (2\alpha +1) /4\leq \gamma \leq (2\alpha+3t) /4\) and \(0\leq (2\beta +1 )/4\leq \delta \leq (2\beta +3)/4\). For \(\theta \geq 1,\) a error estimate for the order of convergence of Cesàro means is given.
