Though it is well known that partial differential operators with constant coefficients always have temperate fundamental solutions, explicit formulas for such fundamental solutions are missing except for special cases like the Laplacian (see also the work of \textit{P. Wagner} [Acta Math. 182, No. 2, 283--300 (1999; Zbl 0993.35005); J. Math. Pure Appl. (9) 81, No. 11, 1191--1206 (2002; Zbl 1112.35300)]). In the present interesting paper, temperate fundamental solutions are computed for homogeneous operators of real principal type. The formula includes logarithmic distributions. The construction is based on analytic continuation of meromorphic distributions and uses radial averages and invariant distributions on the unit sphere.
