The Forni cocycle (Q950633)

The goal of this paper is to present important ideas that Giovanni Forni introduced in two remarkable papers that appeared in the Annals of Mathematics in 1997 and in 2002 [\textit{G. Forni}, Solutions of the cohomological equation for area preserving flows on compact surfaces of higher genus. Ann. Math. (2) 146, No. 2, 295--344 (1997; Zbl 0893.58037) and Deviations of ergodic averages for area-preserving flows on surfaces of higher genus. Ann. Math. (2) 155, No. 1, 1--103 (2002; Zbl 1034.37003)]. The paper under review is occasioned by the award to Giovanni Forni of the inaugural Michael Brin Prize in Dynamical Systems.
