The book under review describes a concise but basically self-contained introduction to Siegel modular forms and their associated Dirichlet series. It starts with the general theory of Siegel modular forms including the operation of the symplectic group on the Siegel half-space, a fundamental domain for the Siegel modular group and the vector space of modular forms. Chapter 2 contains the analytical properties of radial Dirichlet series attached to modular forms of genus 1 or 2. In chapter 3 the general notion of a Hecke ring is explained and the Hecke rings for the general linear group and the symplectic group are described in detail. The next chapter contains the action of the Hecke ring on modular forms and the commutation relation with the Siegel \(\phi\)-operator. In the final chapter multiplicative properties of Fourier coefficients are studied via Hecke operators. At the end the spinor zeta function associated with a Siegel cusp form of genus 2 is investigated. The book is a well written introduction into the classical theory with special emphasis on the author's own contributions to this development.
