The author introduces the notion of generalized Laplace invariant of a system of linear difference equations and he gives conditions for its existence and well-definedness. The system of nonlinear equations \[ u_{i+1,j+1}^l=F^l(u_{i,j},u_{i+1,j},u_{i,j+1}),\quad l=1,2,\dots,n,\quad i,j\in\mathbb{Z}, \] where \(u_{i,j}\) are unknown vectors, has the Liouville property if the chains of generalized invariants for its linearization terminate. The relation between this property and the existence of integrals for the associated linear system is established. Some examples of Liouville type linear and nonlinear discrete systems which illustrate the obtained results are also presented.
