The author considers the global existence and the blow up of the solution of the problem which arises in nonlinear optics and describes three-wave interactions in media with quadratic nonlinearity. Extending some results on the scalar nonlinear Schrödinger equations, the author shows that the Euclidean space dimension \(n=4\) is critical for the envisaged problem in the sense that it is globally solvable in suitable function spaces for any initial data for \(n<4\). For \(n=4, 5, 6\) there are some special initial data for which the problem has a global solution blowing up at a finite time. For \(n>7\) the author points out the class of initial data for which the solution of the considered problem blows up at a finite time estimated from above. In the case of \(n=4\) a set of initial data for which the solutions are not decaying and then another set of initial data for which the solutions are decaying are presented at the end of this work.
