The study of the relations between automorphic representations on different groups is of great interest. A powerful way to establish such relations is through a comparison of the Arthur-Selberg trace formulas for the two groups. As already shown for SL(2) by Labesse and Langlands, issues of stabilization and endoscopic groups arise in doing so. A substantial body of work, much of it due to Arthur, has developed the theory for higher rank groups. The main problem in affecting such a comparison of trace formulas is the Fundamental Lemma, the statement that certain linear combinations of orbital integrals on the two groups are equal. In stabilizing the trace formula, one requires as well a weighted fundamental lemma. Further variants, the twisted fundamental lemma and the weighted twisted fundamental lemma, are required to use the trace formula in the twisted case. In [Mem. Am. Math. Soc. 908, 261 p. (2008; Zbl 1146.22016)], the author has shown that the twisted fundamental lemma for the unit element of the Hecke algebra follows from two other results: the Fundamental Lemma for Lie algebras and another result that he calls the ``non-standard fundamental lemma''. Thanks to the work of Ngo Bao Chau, these results have now been established. In the paper under review the author proves an analogous result for the weighted twisted fundamental lemma. That key lemma is shown to follow from two others: a weighted fundamental lemma for Lie algebras and another, dubbed the ``non-standard weighted fundamental lemma'', in which the twisting does not enter. The author notes that though these have not yet been established, it seems reasonable to hope that the methods of Ngo Bao Chau may be adapted to this situation.
