For a class \(\mathcal C\) of separable metrisable spaces say that \(X\) has the \(\mathcal C\)-separation property if for each embedding \(X\subset C\in\mathcal C\) there is a \(\sigma\)-compact \(A\) with \(X\subset A\subset C\). When \(\mathcal C\) is the class of Polish spaces the \(\mathcal C\)-separation property is the Hurewicz property. Links between various \(\mathcal C\)-separation properties are shown for a range of possible \(\mathcal C\), from Polish spaces through analytic spaces to universally measurable spaces.
