An integral domain \(R\) is called a \textit{treed domain} if the incomparable prime ideals are coprime. It is known that each going-down domain is treed and that the converse is false. An open question was whether an integrally closed, quasi-local treed domain \((R,M)\) of valuative dimension \(2\), with algebraically closed residue field and such that every overring is treed is a going-down domain. In the paper under review, the authors are first proving that if \(R\) is a locally Jaffard integrally closed domain, then \(R\) is a Prüfer domain if and only if each overring of \(R\) is treed. As a corollary, the above question is answered in the affirmative in the more general situation when \(R\) is not necessarily quasi-local and without any assumption on the residue fields. An application to universally catenarian domains is given.
