Compactifications of the homeomorphism group of a graph (Q960843)

By including the homeomorphism group \(\mathcal H(\Gamma)\) of a countable locally finite graph \(\Gamma\) in the space of closed subsets of \(\Gamma\times\Gamma\) with the Fell topology and then taking the closure in the latter one obtains a compactification \(\overline{\mathcal H}(\Gamma)\) of \(\mathcal H(\Gamma)\). For \(\mathcal H_+(\Gamma)\) the identity component of \(\mathcal H(\Gamma)\), the topological type of \((\overline{\mathcal H}_+(\Gamma),\mathcal H_+(\Gamma))\) is determined. \(\overline{\mathcal H}(\mathbb S^1)\) is found to have the homotopy type of \(\mathbb RP^3\).
