The paper deals with \(n\)-th order nonlinear differential equations with retarded argument of the form \[ x^{(n)}(t)+f(t,x(t),x(\tau(t)))=0, \] where \(n\) is even. Necessary and sufficient conditions for the oscillation of the solutions of a class of strongly superlinear and strongly sublinear equations are presented. In the paper, the concept of strongly superlinearity and strongly sublinearity is adopted as in a monograph by \textit{D. Bainov} and \textit{P. Simeonov} [Oscillation theory of impulsive differential equations. Orlando, FL: International Publications (1998; Zbl 0949.34002)].
