The authors rely on Clifford theory to construct three types of irreducible complex characters of the group \(\text{GL}(2,Z/p^l\mathbb Z)\), of degrees \((p+1)p^{l+1}\), \((p-1)p^{l-1}\), \((p^{2}-1)p^{l-2}\), and give the values of the irreducible characters corresponding to them. The first family comes from parabolic induction, and the two other families of characters are induced from a character of the stabilizer defined on a suitable congruence subgroup \(K_{l-i}\), \(1\leq i\leq\tfrac{l}{2}\). The methods of this paper could also be used to find the values of characters for \(\text{GL}(2,R/P^l)\), where \(R\) is the ring of integers of a local or global field and \(P\) is a prime ideal of \(R\).
