The authors study the convergence of approximate solutions obtained using a scheme with variable time-step \(\tau_{n}\) \[ \frac{2}{\tau_{n+1}+\tau_{n}} \bigg(\frac{u^{n+1}-u^{n}}{\tau_{n+1}}-\frac{u^{n}-u^{n-1}}{\tau_{n}}\bigg)+ A(t_{n})\frac{u^{n+1}-u^{n}}{\tau_{n+1}}+B(t_{n})u^{n}=f^{n} \] for the second-order evolution equation \[ u''+Au'+Bu=f, \qquad u(0)=u_{0},\qquad u'(0)=v_0, \] where \(A\) is a nonlinear operator, \(B=B_{0}+C(t)\) with \(B_{0}\) independent of time, strongly positive operator and under other restrictive assumptions. A numerical example to illustrate the convergence is not given.
