Let \(G\) be a finite group and let \(\mathcal{C}\) be a fusion category with a faithful \(G\)-grading whose trivial component is \(\mathcal{D}\). The authors show that the relative center \(\mathcal{Z}_{\mathcal{D}}(\mathcal{C})\) admits a structure of a braided \(G\)-crossed category, and that its \(G\)-equivariantization \(\mathcal{Z}_{\mathcal{D}}(\mathcal{C})^G\) is equivalent as a braided fusion category to \(\mathcal{Z}(\mathcal{C})\), the center of \(\mathcal{C}\). Then a criterion for a graded fusion category to be group-theoretical is given. These results are applied to Tambara-Yamagami fusion categories, and several modular categories are obtained as factors of the centers of these categories. The paper ends with a general result about the existence of zeroes in \(S\)-matrices of weakly integral modular categories, a categorical analogue of a classical result of Burnside in character theory.
