On the history of Fermat's last theorem: Fresh views on an old tale (Q969630)

The author describes this paper as a summary of ideas presented in several recent articles of his. He contends that much of the literature on Fermat's Last Theorem exaggerates the role it played over the years for the mathematical community at large and for individual mathematicians. He also discusses work on FLT, particularly that by Harry Vandiver, that he feels has not received proper attention in the literature.
