    Fixed point theorems for asymptotically nonexpansive mappings in the intermediate sense on uniformly convex real Banach spaces are proven. More to the point, the authors consider three-step iterative sequences \(x_n, y_n, z_n\) (generalising those considered e. g. by Xu and Noor, by Nammanee and Suantai, and by Glowinski and Le Tallec) for operators \(T_1, T_2, T_3:E\supset K\to K\) on nonempty convex subsets \(K\) of uniformly convex real Banach spaces \(E\). The main assumption on the underlying space is that \(E^*\) enjoys the Kadec-Klee property, which generalises earlier results for mappings on spaces with Frechet differentiable norm or with the Opial property. The model for the three-step sequence used is sufficiently general to encompass iterative procedures for the numerical solution of variational problems or problems in elastoviscoplasticity theory as described by [\textit{R. Glowinski} and \textit{P. Le Tallec} [Augmented Lagrangian and operator-splitting methods in nonlinear mechanics. SIAM Studies in Applied Mathematics, 9. As the key argument for proving the main theorems, a demiclosedness principle for the considered mappings is proved that allows to establish strong convergence of sequences of image points. This allows to use the Kadec-Klee property of \(E^*\) to conclude convergence to a fixed point. In the main theorems, conditions are given that imply weak and strong convergence of the sequence \(x_n\) to a common fixed point of \(T_1, T_2, T_3\), which also allows to characterise strong convergence in terms of an easily verifiable criterion.
